A Classic Côtes du Rhône

19 Jul 2021

La Cave Coteaux du Rhône is a co-operative based at the medieval village of Sérignan du Comtat to the north east of Orange in the southern Rhône.

Founded in 1926, their 300 members have vines covering 1100 hectares in many of the villages and specialise in the cultivation of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Viognier.

The winemaker Marc Thomas utilises state of the art winemaking equipment and the most up-to-date practices such as harvesting by night and by parcel and using appropriate vinification methods for different parcels.

The vineyards of the Rhône Valley are fairly rugged and covered in scrub-brush with small outcrops of aromatic herbs such as rosemary, lavender and thyme.

This interesting terroir gives the wines a rustic quality and enhances its suitability as a partner to rich robust fare such as red meats and game       dishes.
