A Rhone Blend from Australia, Mitchell's Mataro Grenache Red

15 Jun 2019

Jane and Andrew Mitchell established the winery in 1975 on the Mitchell family property in the western hills of the Clare Valley in South Australia. An old sandstone apple store was converted to serve as a rustic cellar door sales area. Continued growth has resulted in further development of the winery buildings and winemaking plant. The soils here are perfect for growing Riesling and Shiraz but the Mitchell’s aren’t shy of being experimental, there are some real treats to be found in their range. Including the intriguing blend in this months Wine Club case.

Deep Brooding Mourvèdre

This variety is almost certainly of Catalonian or Spanish origin. This vine produces striking deep red wines of great power with the key flavours being black fruit and spice.

Also known as Garnacha in Spain, Grenache has soft, fragrant flavours and is used mainly in blending. Full of red fruit flavour such as cherry and blackberry.
