White Bordeaux: A Forgotten Gem From France

01 Aug 2019

The wines of Bordeaux cover an enormous range of styles and price points and there is truly a Bordeaux wine for every situation. It should therefore be surprising that the fantastic dry white wines of this viticultural paradise are so often overlooked in favour of their red counterparts. Thankfully not everyone has forgotten about these fabulous wines and when looking for a wine to pair with a goats cheese starter our sales manager Mike suggested the superb Chateau Reuilles Blanc. The match was spot on and I would highly recommend trying. Thanks Mike!

Patrick Todesco is a third-generation wine-maker at his award-winning estate in Savignac de Duras. It is located on the far east side of the Bordeaux region.

This quiet corner of the world is where Bordeaux spreads into its satellite appellations, and Les Reuilles borders the lesser known Côtes de Duras appellation. The climate here is slightly warmer and dryer than that of its neighbours which gives the Sauvignons a softer, rounder character.

Unlike many dry white Bordeaux wines, Patrick has opted not to blend the wine with Semillon. This has allowed him to retain the fresh, green, grassy aromas and zingy acidity of the variety.
