Spliced Wines from South African Vines

The Remhoogte farm lies to the south east of Hermanus in the Akkedisberg area and has been owned by the Dreyer family since 1982. Every year a few hectares have been added and the 68 hectares on the farm at present includes plantings of 8 major grape varieties.

The theory behind this “spliced” wine is that it blends the strengths of these varieties in order to create a wine with great balance and originality. Each year they opt for a slightly different belnd to kkep things fresh with the bottle in this case having a higher than usual proportion of Shiraz. This is especially heartening as they almost lost that vineyard to wild fires a couple of years ago.
