Alvarinho

A fine white mainly cultivated along the Minho river, in Portugal's northern Vinho Verde region. It was one of the first Portuguese wines labelled as a single variety and therefore is relatively well known. Full bodied with aromas of sweet citrus and tropical fruit. In the mouth flavours of yellow stone fruit, honeysuckle, citrus and a zippy crispness should feature.

Regional Variance

Mostly cultivated along the Minho river; Alvarinho is drier, fuller-bodied and more aromatic compared to prominent regional whites, Loureiro and Trajadura.

In Spain, high yield is sacrificed for superior quality. Vines tend to be elevated above ground level, reducing damp to produce healthy, high quality grapes. Over-ripening is prevented by leaf canopy above the grape.
