This is perhaps Chile's most famous red wine producing region which as produced some stunning Cabernet Sauvignon for over 150 years. Close to Santiago, the Capital of Chile, the Maipo has been a favourite wine producing region since colonial times.
The main wineries are spread from the mountains to the coast and there has been a recent move to establish appellation to indicate the terroir of the three distinct sub regions, Maipo Alto along the Andes, Central Maipo on the plains and the Coastal Maipo towards the Coastal range.
