Southern Chile is a vinicultural backwater in terms of both production volume and preference of vine, yet there is undeniable potential in the climate and conditions of the region.
País, the grape of pisco, is planted in great swathes across the region but is thankfully not alone. Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir have met with promising results in the cool weather of the south and may well eat into the dominance of País. Iata and Bió-Bió are the two sub-regions to be found in Southern Chile.
