Brouilly is a familiar name that fulfils many people's expectations of what a Beaujolais should be. Its essential fruitiness comes to the fore and benefits from being drunk young. It has the largest output of the 10 crus, from 1,200ha under vine, but its size is also its weakness as quality is not always uniformly high.
Light, fruity and delicious with aromas of red fruits when at its best, though the standard of some producers may reach no higher than that of a Beaujolais-Villages.
