A large area is under vine in Morgon, including the celebrated Côte du Py, and at their best these wines have a complexity all of their own. Such is their individuality, attributed to schist in the soil, that the verb 'morgonner' was created to denote a specific form of development in a wine. They are canny marketeers in Morgon and, aside from insinuating themselves into the French language, they are credited with popularising the opening of their wineries to visitors and spreading the fame of Beaujolais.
