Canon-Fronsac is the baby brother of Fronsac (itself a close relation of St-Émilion), and a rather erratic one at that. Its 300 hectares have the potential to produce exceptionally fine Merlot-based wines from their south-facing vineyards of limestone soils, but quality can be variable. The name of the producer, such as Château Barrabaque or Château Canon Mouiex, is the most important guide for the drinker.
