Although it is the smallest appellation on the Côte Chalonnaise, the medieval village of Givry is its traditional heartland of winemaking. It lost its pre-eminece a long time ago, and has no premier cru vineyards, but a modern wave of producers have set out to show that it retains the ability to create very good wines. Reds make up most of the output though whites are increasingly highly prized.
