Aloxe-Corton

Dominated by the hill of Corton, which offers the ideal slopes for the vineyards of the appellation, Aloxe-Corton is famous for its two grand crus: Corton-Charlemagne produces some of the finest Chardonnay wines in the world, whilst Corton (which actually covers several individual vineyards) is the only grand cru for reds in the whole Côte de Beaune. The premier cru and village wines are predominantly red and can represent very good value for money.

The white Corton-Charlemagne has a richness and longevity that only Montrachet can really rival. The grand cru reds require over five years in the bottle for their subtleties to really be released, but the lower appellations are much more approachable. They are generally much lighter than the wines of the Côte de Nuits just to the north-east.
