This is a small appellation that loses most of its best wines to Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. The reason for this seeming injustice is that the vineyards that lie on the hill of Corton are entitled to use those grand cru appellations and, as they are more famous and marketable than the largely unknown Ladoix-Serrigny, they generally do. There are, however, five well-regarded premier cru vineyards that use the Ladoix-Serrigny appellation.
