The grand cru white wines of Puligny-Montrachet - including those from the revered La Montrachet vineyard - are incredible wines that live long and cost a lot. It is fortunate that the premier cru wines are also excellent and considerably more affordable. In typical Burgundian style, which is a euphemism for extremely complicated, many of the vineyards here - including La Montrachet - overlap the neighbouring Chassagne-Montrachet and are claimed by both village communes.

Puligny-Montrachet produces white wines that - at grand and premier cru level - are rich, acidic and demanding of age. The village level wines, playing on the Montrachet name, are often considered somewhat expensive for the quality they offer.
