Fixin has historical and geographical claims to fame, which maybe make up for the lack of prestige its wines have when compared with others in the Côte de Nuits. A close associate of Napoleon hailed from here and established a local vineyard in the Emperor's honour, complete with statue, whilst on the geographical front it is the northern extremity of those conditions that makes the Côte de Nuits great and has within its borders the area's first five premier cru vineyards.
