Nuits-St-Georges

Nuits-St-Georges

The Côte de Nuits takes its name from the famous village of Nuits-St-Georges at its southern tip, but there is not a grand cru to be found in this comparatively large area. This may be because the winemakers of the 1930s refused to pay the higher taxes that went with such an appellation. So there are, instead, around 40 premier cru vineyards. Quality, as well as style, can be highly variable in Nuits-St-Georges but at its best is worthy of its fame.
