Garnacha thrives here, as does the Mazuelo grape. The conditions in the Rioja Baja ensure they ripen easily and provide softness, weight, warmth and high alcohol content for the finished blend.
It is a Mediterranean climate in this part of the Rioja district and it comes as no surprise that in vineyards as low as 300m above sea level the Garnacha (Grenache) grape, so at home in the south of France, does well. The soil is sandy and alluvial.
