Toro

Wine was made here before Roman arrival and it's reputation has attracted Royal approval since 13th Century. The region is named after the town of the same name, located on the Duero and just 65km from the Portuguese border. Known for powerful red wines, the region is attracting increasing sums of investment both from within Spain and further afield.

Toro DO was established in 1987 and falls within the Castilla y Leon region. 

Vines & Styles 

Tempranillo and Garnacha are the main red varietals. Tempranillo (Known here as Tinta de Toro) produces rich, high alcohol & fruit forward wines. White wines are produced from Malvasia Blanca and Verdejo for Toro Blanco. 

Climate & Conditions

The Continental climate, just like the other Castilla y Leon DOs, is provides summer highs and winter lows. Coupled with low annual rainfall, the wines can reach 16% without too much trouble.
