The climate is extremely continental with cold winters and hot summers. The average annual rainfall, 410 mm, is low and together with the cold winter and spring nights results in a low yield and grapes of excellent quality.
The main vines cultivated are Tempranillo (known locally as the Cencibel), Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera grape varieties. In recent years there have been plantings of Syrah, a grape variety that is ideal for rosé wine.
The wines are made to the local wine laws, Denomination of Origen Almansa.
