Bairrada

Bairrada

Located about 100km to the South of Porto, Bairrada is very close to the sea.  Officially classified in 1979, the vineyards are planted on mostly clay soils with vineyards broken up into small plots such as those found in Burgundy.

The region produces mainly table white and red wines; however, there are some notable small growers producing some stunning wines.  The region is also famed for its light sparkling wine, made by the same method as champagne.
