The smallest of all 10 of the Beaujolais crus, Chénas is often overlooked in the dash for its neighbours. Its name derives, quite ironically, from the oak woodlands that have largely been replaced by vineyards.
With the weight and power to almost bring to mind Moulin-à-Vent, its illustrious neighbour to the south, it does not have quite the same ageing potential as Juliénas in the north.
