One could argue that this region has taken its name from (or given its name to) the Cabernet Franc grape. In fact, this grape is planted here alongside Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Côtes de Francs lies close to the villages of St-Émilion and Côtes de Castillon and is one the of the highest vineyards in Bordeaux and has the lowest rainfall. This dry area is rich in clay and limestone soils and produces full-bodied red wines.
