Whilst there have been vineyards in England for thousands of years wine production had all but died out by the beginning of the 20th Century. Since the 1950's however there has been an upward turn in the fortunes of English wine production and we now have over 100 wineries making wines from exciting grape varieties such as Rondo, Muller-Thurgau and Madeleine Angevine.
Whilst English still wine continues to go from strength to strength the real jewel in the crown of english wine making must surely be the champagne style sparkling wines made predominently on the chalky soils South Coast with producers such as Nyetimber and English Oak winning multiple awards.
