Small and relatively unknown, Moulis may suffer from a lack of an obvious identity. It has some areas where the soil is clay and limestone, meaning that Merlot thrives, and others where gravel is dominant and Cabernet Sauvignon is key. The top châteaux can consistently deliver excellent wines that are worthy of more renown than they receive.
The Merlot-dominated wines are softer and fruitier than those with a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Both will age well when produced to a high standard.
