Italy (Puglia).
Zinfandel.
This grape makes full-bodied, rich, concentrated wine with a deep colour, mouth-filling flavours and occasional rough/gippy tannin. The fame of, and demand for, American Zinfandel has led some Italian vintners to imitate the American oak stlye. This leads to a greater prevalence of oak characters in the wine amongst bitter the traditional bitter cherry, with larger cropping levels helping to make softer tannin.
