In 1988 Régnié was the tenth and last village to be upgraded to cru Beaujolais. This Village appellation surrounds the double steeples of Régnié-Durette church. Régnié can rival its neighbours in Morgon and Brouilly, but all too often it has more in common with Beaujolais Villages.
A variety of styles, from the deep and weighty to the light and delicate, are produced in this reasonably large appellation. Individual producers all have their own approach.
