Setubal Peninsula

Setubal Peninsula

Setúbal Peninsula is a unique region which juts out into the Atlantic between the Tejo and Sado rivers. Here, many styles of wine are in evidence. With vineyards planted on sandy plains and limestone hills, the Setúbal DOC produces a sweet fortified wine using the local Muscat grape.

With a maritime climate, the Palmela DOC covers much of the same area as Setúbal, though it stretches eastwards to cover more of the plains. Here, white grapes are planted alongside modern international red varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.
