Zweigelt

Zweigelt

This is Austria's most popular and most widely planted red grape variety which can produce wines very similar in style to Pinot Noir. The grape originated back in 1922 by Dr Zweigelt by crossing two grape variates Blaufrankisch for the body and St-Laurent for its acidity. It is popular in Austria as it is a late budding and early ripening grape helping growers to avoid the perils of frost.
