St-Julien

A neighbour of Pauillac, and equally illustrious, St-Julien harnesses similar conditions to create wines of a markedly different character.  It is such variety in close proximity that is one of the joys of Bordeaux.  One of the less welcome traits of the region is the widely varying quality of the vintages, but the wines of St-Julien are renowned for their consistency and this is a worthy and well-earned accolade.

  1. Château Talbot, Saint Julien, 2005

Château Talbot, Saint Julien, 2005 75cl

Like most 2005 clarets this is showing great character now but will also age well, we’re still not sure when this vintage will peak. Generous cherry and blackcurrant aromas are supported by firm but not imposing tannin and a long finish.

  2. Château Talbot, Saint Julien, 2008

Château Talbot, Saint Julien, 2008 75cl

Fruit not quite as dominant as the 2005, with more herbaceous notes detectable amongst tannin and spice. Medium body and quite soft on the palate too which makes for a creamy texture with an unimposing finish.

  3. Connetable de Talbot, Saint Julien

Connetable de Talbot, Saint Julien, 2008 75cl

Fresh fruit is starting to show through here and it is joined by a decent amount Tannin that in time will soften to combine nicely. It’s all black fruit and, with a hint of leather to bring a bit extra, has great elegance and grace
