Meursault

Limestone is the dominant soil around the large village of Meursault, located in the centre of the Côte de Beaune, and so it follows that Chardonnay is king. There are no grand cru vineyards to be found, but premier crus abound and they produce some of the most justifiably famous white wines anywhere in Burgundy (and therefore the world). Les Perrières and Les Charmes are two exceptional premier cru vineyards to look out for, but the basic village wines can be excellent too.

Oak is often used in the ageing of white Meursault and this adds to the natural richness that the terroir produces. They are unashamedly sumptuous wines. A little red wine is also made, but not to the standards of elsewhere in the Côte de Beaune.
