It is that time of year again when we look to the third Thursday of November to celebrate the release of the first red of the harvest, the 2021 vintage of Beaujolais.

In short, we have a smaller yield than 2020 but the quality is looking really great with a wonderful maturity of fruit.

So with the excuse of having a party to celebrate, here are some useful did you know facts about Beaujolais.

- Beaujolais is made from the Gamy grape.

- There are over 120 festivals in the Beaujolais region to celebrate the vintage and the release of the wine.

- Geographically the region of Beaujolais lies in the Rhone department, yet could be regarded as a wine from Burgundy. However, the people of Beaujolais believe their wine region stands on its own.
