Standing Head and Wing Above the Rest

Cranswick named the range from which this month’s wine was selected after the Lakefield Nature Reserve on the Cape York Peninsula. It is in these spectacular wetlands that the Sarus crane can be found living amongst a plethora of other creatures including the saltwater crocodile, the world’s largest reptile.

The Sarus crane is the only crane native to Australia and is the world’s tallest flying bird. Cranswick have chosen it as their emblem because it ‘stands above all others’.

Thankfully the grapes aren’t grown in this environment and the Riverna Valley’s ideal grape-growing conditions have produced wine that is fantastically clean and full of ripe fruit flavour. The vineyards are situated in the heart of New South Wales, around the city of Griffiths. The warm, dry summers ensure that the grapes ripen easily, this really shows through into the wines. This is great Australian wine for the summer.
