At the age of 21 Félix Martínez Lacuesta founded the bodega back in 1873. As the first president of the National Society of Winemakers and Associated Industries, president of the la Rioja Wine Syndicate and many more such associations, he became the seat of all knowledge for the emerging region of Rioja. He was the founder of the organisation which forms the Denominacio de Origen de Rioja, the backbone of the laws that make the wines of Rioja today.
Still in the hands of the same family (board meetings can be difficult with 30 cousins) they have just made a huge investment to move from their original home, hidden in the heart of the town of Haro, to a magnificent state of the art complex on the outskirts. The wine that I have selected is full of class, beautifully made expressions of the local grapes and terroir and will sure to please any table it graces.
