Famed for both red and white wines of great quality and complexity, it is mostly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are grown here. That said, there are areas that grow the white grapes Sauvignon Blanc, Aligoté and Pinot Blanc in small quantities. There are more Appellations in Burgundy than any other region in France, a fact that reflects the sheer quality of the wines produced here.
