A Red With Some Fizz

I'm sure that some of you have come across a sparkling red before, there are a few of them out there and from personal experience they can be very hit and miss. For me, the criteria has to be whether or not it is all about the gimmick or whether the fizz is actually bringing something to the wine.

I never had any doubts about Jane and Andrew Mitchell, when they make wine they do it for all the right reasons. The shiraz used in this wine comes from their Peppertree Vineyard, some of you may be familiar with the deliciously peppery still shiraz that they do. It's one of my favourite reds when I'm in the mood for something full bodied and spicy. Given that it's summer, there is not always the occasion for such a wine so I thought that the sparkling offering was a fantastic alternative. I would recommend you slightly chill this and enjoy with your feet up or possibly with some barbecued red meat, it's one of those wines that will satisfy those who love their reds full and gutsy, but will also suit the warmer weather and need for something cool.
