I'm a big fan of the Plaimont Cooperative based in the South of France, and I take full responsibility for Weavers taking on the Le Faite wines. Often associated with bulk house styles (those of you have tried the Plaimont Sauvignon or Colombard will testify to there being nothing wrong with that!), this is a region that can also produce wines of fantastic complexity.
With this not being the richest part of France, and suffering from a lack of Chateaus with vast cellars, they used to have a problem storing premium wines of this sort. To get around this problem they would bury the wines that need a bit of bottle aging underground, and the wooden tag was used as paper labels would wear away and be illegible.
