The terroir of La Mascaronne had always been renowned for producing some of the finest and longest-lived red wines of the region - complex, powerful with supple dark fruit flavours - and it was for this reason that Tom Bove (also of Château Miraval) acquired the Domaine some years ago. After taking over the Domaine he quickly embarked on an ambitious programme of restoration and investment in the latest wine-making technology and viticultural techniques.
The gently sloping vineyards consist of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cinsault and Ugni-Blanc with new plantings of Rolle (Vermentino). The wines produced at La Mascaronne are all within the Côtes de Provence appellation and sustainable viticulture practices are employed. The grapes are hand harvested into small containers and sorted both in the vineyard and at the cellar door, again by hand.
The wine-making team at Mascaronne continues to produce interesting and individual wines which demonstrate the uniqueness of this beautiful property and we are very excited about what they will create next!
