El Transistor

The creator of this wine, Telmo Rodriguez, has the reputation of the mad professor of Spanish wine and has a reputation for embracing the unusual and unique. Faced with the problem of wild boar ravaging his vineyard at night he decided to leave his radio playing at full blast. As a result his crop was saved but it was not such a happy ending for his quieter neighbours as the boar ate their grapes instead! Hence the name El Transistor.

This is a 100% old vine Verdejo from the Rueda region of Spain. Often seen purely as a table variety it is a real testiment to the skill of the winemaker that he has been able to produce such a concentrated and complex wine. Using wild yeasts and a multitude of oak casks and inert vessels the wine is aged for 9 months before bottling.
