Typical wine merchants that we are we're always trying to sniff out rare and unusual wines so as you can imagine it was a real pleasure exploring the little known Spanish grape varieties which were on offer. One such variety was the extremely rare Albillo Mayer which hails from the little known Castilla Leon region to the east of the Ribero del Duero. This particualr wine comes from century old vines and whilst being light and fresh exhibits complex aromas of white flowers, peach and mineral notes.
The Sulpicia wines are made by Bodegas Ermita del Conde which is a tiny operation east of the Ribero del Duero. The vineyard is located over 900m above sea level around the tiny village of Coruna del Conde and this high altitude mountain terroir gives the wines much of their unique character.
