This is the only red Rioja in this months case but it is far ordinary. Hailing from the warmer Rioja Baja area in the South East of the region the guys at Bodegas del Medievo like to do things a bit differently. Only 4000 bottles of this 100% Graciano are made per vintage and it is made as a tribute to those who work in the vineyards. It is lovely and round on the palate with rather unusual menthol notes. A very rare and interesting wine which shows a more inventive side of Spain's classic region.
The Tuercebotas100% Graciano was selected from over 1000 wines and included amongst Spain’s best 100 wines at the New Wave Spanish wines tasting 2012.
The wine is characterised by ripe red fruit and exhibits secondary aromas of liquorice, cedar and cloves. The palate has a creamy texture interspersed with sweet spices. The tannins are a little bit dry but not austere and the finish is long and leathery
