Take a trip to Bodegas Martinez Lacuesta, the fifth oldest remaining Bodegas in the prestigious Rioja Alta region, and you will find one of the finest marriages of modern wine making and traditional practices anywhere in Spain. On the one hand you have the modern looking new Bodegas, with its underground facilities covered by vineyards which act as thermic insulation. On the other you can see practices in the Great Barrel Ageing Hall,

and the vineyards themselves which stretch back well over a century. Both work in harmony to create wines of outstanding quality and great traditional character. The wine I've selected for this month's case is young, clean and bursting with ripe red fruit. Younger Riojas tend to be light and fresh in the mouth whilst a small amount of time being aged in oak barrels give them that slight vanilla edge which add a degree of complexity and mark them out as being of this classic style. The wine in question states that it is 'Madurado 6 meses en Bodega' which translates to cellared for 6 months.
