Wines from Switzerland

This absolutely superb wine was one of the stand out performers at our recent Wine Club Members Tasting. Whilst Switzerland may not be seen as being at the forefront of the European wine market they are certainly making some stunning wines and this example of the national white grape, Petite Arvine, is no exception.

Made by the renowned Favre brothers (John and Mike) this wine is made without the use of pesticides in the vineyard with a greater emphasis placed upon finding equilibrium between soil, climate, water supply and vineyard management techniques. This is particularly impressive as Petite Arvine is very vulnerable to hail, requires an unusually high amount of rainfall, and only produces a low yield. Perhaps if more wines like this begin to make their way over to these shores Swiss wines will become more of a force in the U.K wine market. Otherwise it will just have to remain our little secret!
