Rene Dopff is a wine making trailblazer in the truest sense of the word. After acquiring control of the estate he broke away from the centuries old wine making techniques and looked to the terroir rather than grape variety.
He decided to divide the vineyard at the Château de Riquewihr into four estates, which he rechristened with typically French names: Les Murailles, Les Sorcières, Les Maquisards and Les Amandiers. The Pinot Gris grapes in this months case are grown in the Les Maquisards vineyard.
Its great well-balanced and concentrated freshness has produced a wine without heaviness, at once elegant and perfectly structured. Refreshing and with clear bright fruit, this Pinot Gris goes perfectly well with grilled white fish, lobster or sea scallops.
