With Spanish wine production being largely dominated by the production of sparkling Cava and Rioja reds it is perhaps understandable that as recently as the 1970’s the little known Godello grape was all but extinct.
Thankfully the virtues of this superb grape variety were spotted before it was to late and the variety was saved with 2850 acres now under plantation. The variety itself combines the structure of white burgundy with the finesse of a juicily mineral grape and be aged equally successfully in oak barrels or stainless steel tanks.
