The In Situ range is brought to us by Viña San Esteban, a family owned business based in the Aconcagua Valley, Chile. To be honest, the reason we first decided to take at look at the wines was because we were interested in their stance on producing wine in a sustainable and, therefore environmentally friendly, way.
Once we’d tasted them however, the quality was enough to ensure they were definitely going to be pulled into the range. The sustainability is a welcome bonus. Viña San Esteban’s vines are situated on the banks of the Aconcagua river (pictured above) and enjoy soil conditions and a unique micro climate that produce wine that is internationally recognised. The In Situ range itself is part of a ’terroir project’, a concept that involves wine makers trying to identify ‘micro terroirs’ which have the ability bring the best out of specific grape varieties.
Terroir
A term used to describe the total natural environment of any viticultural site. There is no direct translation into English for this quintessentially French term.
