Reuilly, A Classic Sauvignon Expression

Grape cultivation dates back to the seventh century in the small appellation of Reuilly, located in the Loire Valley. Nowhere near as famous as its neighbours Sancerre or Pouilly Fumé, the white wines of Reuilly are also made from Sauvignon Blanc.

It wasn't until the 1980s that we first started to see the popularity of this grow enough for it to make an impact on markets outside of France, but today it is one of those great regions that rewards those that are 'in the know'.It would be fair to say that Reuilly was an appellation on the edge of extinction and at one point could on boast 30 hectares of land under vine. It wasn't until the intervention of visionary winemaker Claude Lafond that things started to turn around.

Claude's Legacy - A Modern Reuilly

The wine I've included in your packs is made at the modern, state-of-the-art facility, built by Claude Lafond when his daughter Natalie decided to join the business in 2012. Despite being told he was mad to try and resurrect Reuilly when he first inherited the Vineyard from his father in 1977, Claude fought for it and the modern facilities that his Natalie now inherits will, I'm sure, continue to produce superb wines that are off the radar for many people.
