The small island of Ischia is in the northern part of the bay of Naples. Casa d'Ambra was founded in 1888 and is still run by the founding family. The vineyard is planted in lava-rich soil on steep terraces overlooking the sea - they have their own monorail to transport the grapes down to the cantina! The island itself has played host to many renowned artists, composers and poets with numerous notable works being created here. It has also provided the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters Cleopatra and The Talented Mr Ripley amongst others.
The wine itself is an appealing straw yellow in colour with an intense yet delicate bouquet of racy citrus fruits and honeysuckle. On the palate the wine is complex, dry, and surprisingly full bodied and matches exceptionally well with seafood dishes such as shrimp and lobster.
