This wine is made from the classic Italian grape variety Sangiovese, the same grape that of which Brunello, just tothe north, is made. Sangiovese wines typically exhibit fresh flavours of strawberry and light spice in their youth but after some ageing in bottle and barrel develop distinct sour cherry, green tea and earthy aromas. Malintoppo is a rich, rounded, full bodied classic Tuscan wine that works brilliantly as a food wine. Interestingly Sangiovese is known for accentuating the flavours of otherwise bland dishes so perhaps pair this with something simple such as roast chicken.
