There was a time when finding reasonably priced fruity Australian wines was easy but, due to exchange rates and shipping costs, it is getting ever harder to find this popular style of wine. Whilst much of the popularity of Austrailan wine is based upon the big, chunky reds from areas such as the Barossa and the full bodied, oaky Chardonnays from Margaret river, there are also slightly lighter wines being produced which deserve recognition.
Situated in the Murray Darling region of Australia, the Murphy family have been producing wine since 1908. Whilst their aim is to produce meduim bodied fruit-driven attractive wines, they don't lose sight of the need for varietal expression, with their Shiraz showing the characteristics that have come to define them.
