An old sandstone apple store was converted to serve as a rustic cellar door sales area. Continued growth has resulted in further development of the winery buildings and winemaking plant. The soils here are perfect for growing Riesling and Shiraz but the Mitchell’s aren’t shy of being experimental; there are some real treats to be found in their range.

 Riesling

‘The wine merchant’s grape’ - so called because 1. it makes wine with great complexity and aging potential and 2. we can’t get anyone else to buy it!  With the quality and longevity of the wine it produces, Riesling could claim to make the best white wine in the world. Its reputation has been tarnished by it becoming the (unjustifiably) generic name for a number of lower quality white wines in the 1960s and 70s. Whilst Germany is its traditional home, Alsatian Riesling has a great reputation and, more recently, Australasian countries have mastered its production.
